CARYN LONG EARL
Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
Caryn Long Earl was appointed Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Food Assistance in May 2017. Prior to this appointment, she served for two years as Executive Assistant to Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding.
Prior to joining the department in May 2015, Long Earl spent more than a decade working on public policy issues related to food safety and food security. This includes previous public service with USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service and as a Congressional Agriculture Fellow in the U.S. Senate. Upon leaving federal service, she served for four years as a Senior Policy Advisor at Feeding America, where she focused on appropriations and federal commodity issues, and for three years as Executive Director of Feeding Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania state-association of Feeding America food banks.
Long Earl received Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Communication/Journalism from Shippensburg University. She earned a Master of Science degree in Management, with a concentration in marketing, from University of Maryland University College. Originally from Cumberland County, she and her husband, Matthew, live in Chambersburg, Franklin County with their three sons.
